While no one is safe from any sexually-transmitted disease, there are certain groups of people that are at higher risk of contracting these infections. Sometimes, there are a number of factors that make a person more likely to get infected compared to others. Here are three of those risk factors:
1. Having unprotected sex
Even though using protection when having sex will not 100% guarantee that you will not be contracting any STD, using condoms can lower that chances of you getting infected. These things are made from a material that can serve as a barrier against bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms that cause STDs so that you can remain STD-free.
2. Having multiple sex partners
There are people that prefer to have several sex partners at a time. While this is the enjoyable thing for them, it only increases their risk of contracting STDs. The more sex partners you have, the higher the chances that you will be exposed to these infections.
3. Drug and alcohol use
The use of alcohol and drugs can make it hard for people to make decisions properly. The effects of alcohol and drugs on the brain and body may make a person more inclined to engage in risky sexual behaviors.
