STI, or sexually transmitted infections are the most commonly spread infections worldwide, including the USA as well. Sexually transmitted infections attack both men and women, but the symptoms are a bit different, according to the gender of a person.  Half of the infections yearly usually affect the younger population, teenagers and young adults, from age 18 to around 25. You can be exposed to sexually transmitted infections through any kind of sexual contact, and the infection can appear at any given time. If you have more than one partner, and you do not use protection, like condoms, there is a greater possibility that you will be exposed to sexually transmitted infections and get them as well. Sexually transmitted infections have become a worldwide concern, because it is transmitted too easily, and people do not think about the consequences, and what can happen if they get infected during an unprotected sexual activity. Some of these STIs can even be linked to the risk of getting HIV, human immunodeficiency virus. Sexually transmitted infections can be revealed through testing, it can help distinguish the problems that may occur during the infection period and to avoid spreading the infection to others. 

Most Usual Sexually Transmitted Infections

There are more than twenty sexually transmitted infections out there in the world, which can be caused by protozoa, bacteria or a virus, each of which is dangerous enough to kill your immune system and prevent you from living a normal life. Most common Sexually transmitted diseases in the USA are chlamydia, HPV, or human papilloma virus, genital herpes, hepatitis B, syphilis, gonorrhea, HIV, which is the main culprit for AIDS, and having one of the above mentioned STIs can help increase your chances of getting HIV; and last but not the least, scabies and pubic lice.

Teenagers and Young Adults who are Sexually Active

The groups of people that are more at risk of getting infected are teenagers and young adults, because they are still in the phase of development and therefore an easy target for infections and diseases to attack their young health system. They usually get infected by having unprotected sex with others, especially if they have multiple partners, or if they get involved in high-risk sexual behaviors, like having multiple partners, as we already mentioned earlier. 

Women Infected with Sexually Transmitted Infections: Issues

Sexually transmitted diseases can cause grave infections of the uterus and reproductive organs in women, called PID, or pelvic inflammatory disease. It can also cause scar tissue, that can block the tubes that lead to reproductive organs, and the consequences could be dangerous for women, like infertility, chronic pelvic pain or ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage and such.

Men Infected with Sexually Transmitted Infections: Issues

It is different with men, they can usually experience infection and inflammation of urethra, anus, and prostate, which is very painful. If these things occur, you should ask the help of a professional, check the symptoms that you might have, and test yourself to see if you are infected or not.
