HIV is caused by a virus and it can be transmitted in the following ways:

- unprotected sexual intercourse
- sharing of syringes and needles when injecting drugs
- using unsterilized equipment for tattooing and piercing
- from an infected mother to her baby
- exposure to infected blood

Symptoms of HIV

When it comes to symptoms, HIV does not really trigger in most cases. Many HIV patients have been symptom-free for several years. But, if it does cause visible signs and symptoms, they are usually:

- fever
- rashes
- lesions
- night sweats
- blurred vision

As of now, there is no cure for HIV, but there are treatment solutions available to manage the spread of the virus in the body. Many HIV patients who receive antiretroviral treatment live normal lives. But, those who fail to do so may end up developing AIDS and die sooner.
