Hepatitis C

Treatment is often very uncomfortable and the patient can suffer a lot of discomfort and inconvenience. To help minimize the side effects of treatment, a number of methods are listed and described in detail. These methods can go a long way in helping you cope if you are undergoing Hepatitis C treatment.

The Treatment

Hepatitis c is treated with a combination of antiviral medications. It is possible to be cured of Hep c if you follow medical advice given you by your clinic.

For Dry, Itchy Skin Accompanied By Mild Rashes All Over

It is advised to take short warm baths or showers. Take note: It must be warm, not hot. Moisturizing soaps like Dove and Aveeno are also recommended for use so as not to irritate the skin.

Use unscented skin lotions and sunscreen. Patients undergoing treatment are easily susceptible to burning because of their sensitized skin. Euricin is the best over the counter lotion for many skin problems such as eczema and other rashes.

Specific Skin Irritation Present At The Injected Area And How To Avoid It.

Note that skin irritation developing in the injected area is normal. It is usually red and painless. It should disperse on its own within 7-10 days. To minimize this side effect, it is advised to rotate the areas where injections are to occur.

Chest Pain

If chest pain occurs, this is not normal or common and should be treated seriously and immediately. It is advised to go to the closest urgent care facility.

Some of the medication taken may have insomnia as an undesirable side effect. This becomes doubly inconvenient as flu-like symptoms can also develop from treatment. If insomnia occurs, check with your local clinic for medications that will help.

Flu-Like Symptoms

You may experience flu-like symptoms you can take 2 regular strength Tylenol or Advil for these symptoms and repeat after 4-6 hours. Also, increase fluids such as water and juice.

If depression occurs, it is good to get regular exercise and consider therapy from support groups and possibly medication for depression.

Loss Of Appetite

Sometimes, loss of appetite is reported as well. In this case, it is best to do some moderate exercise to raise the metabolism. It is also good to eat smaller more frequent meals. This is called “grazing.” Protein shakes such as ensure or boost and fruit shakes can also help. Brushing your teeth will help eliminate any metallic tastes in your mouth that could hamper appetite by making food taste bad.

Vomiting Or Have Diarrhea

It is again recommended to take a lot of fluids. Water again and not anything that is alcoholic or with caffeine. Bland foods that are easily digested by the stomach are recommended.  Foods like plain toast, crackers, bananas, plain rice, or boiled potatoes. If vomiting or diarrhea persists for 3 days you must consult the clinic at the soonest possible time. You can also use peppermint to calm and reduce nausea.
