An HIV-positive 31-year-old man in Dallas has been sentenced to 75 years in prison after having pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl.
Was it legal?
Matthew Louis Reese, investigators day, was engaged in a sexual relationship with the teenage girl. He then passed on the infection to her. The girl is now 17 years old and she admitted that she would not have engaged in any kind of sexual contact with Reese if she knew that he had HIV.
This news should make more people aware of what punishments and penalties HIV-infected individuals can face if they have unprotected sex with other people without telling them of their HIV status. This act is a criminal offense so always be careful.
HIV is not treatable
HIV is caused by a virus that is usually transmitted from one person to another through oral, anal or vaginal sex. It can also be contracted via exposure to infected blood.
As of today, no treatment method can completely get rid of the virus in a person's system. What we have are treatment solutions that can slow down or control the replication of the virus so that people can still live their lives normally. These medications may have to be taken for the rest of their lives to stop the virus from being active.
Testing for HIV is very important and should be done at the earliest opportunity. Buy a certified rapid HIV test kit for STD Rapid Test Kits to test for HIV in a safe, easy, convenient, accurate, and fast manner.
