Health officials in Franklin County are working double time to spread the news that an outbreak of syphilis is at hand in Columbus, Ohio. According to reports, the number of syphilis cases in Franklin County over the last five years has experienced an alarming spike.

The statistics in depth

Compared to the national average, the syphilis cases documented in Franklin Country are twice as many. They have also increased three times over the past couple of years, which is a lot more than the syphilis rate surges in other parts of the state.

Furthermore, the increase is very noticeable in the African American population and the female population. There has been a 70% increase in the number of African American men who have syphilis and a 77% increase in the number of females who have become infected, and about 66% of those are African American.
